New Jersey State Youth Orchestra Free Concert at Holmdel Church

On Saturday, April 6, The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Holmdel, NJ will hold a concert featuring the New Jersey State Orchestra at 3:00 PM.  Two groups will perform, including the Concert Youth Orchestra  of 36 children, 5th graders and older, and the Preparatory String Orchestra of 8 children, 2nd graders and older. 

The concert is free and open to the public.  Attendees will be encouraged to participate in a free will offering which will be donated to the World Hunger 100 Wells program to provide clean and safe water for impoverished areas throughout the world. 

The Concert Youth Group, led by Mr. Leo Soeda, will play:
John Williams - "The Imperial March" from Star Wars
W.A. Mozart - Rondo alla Turca
C. Gounod - Funeral March for a Marionette
L. Jessel - Parade for Wooden Soldiers

The Preparatory String Orchestra, led by Mrs. Katie  Gussman, will play:
Allegro from Concerto for two Trumpets - by Antonio Vivaldi, arr. by Joseph Phillips
Desert Sands - by Soon Hee Newbold,
Country Wedding Dance - by Bedrich Smetana, arr. by Michael Storey,
Gavotte - by Arcangelo Corelli, arr. by Bob Phillips.   

After the concert, light refreshments (provided by the NJSYO) will be served.  
The New Jersey State Youth Orchestra (NJSYO) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.  It is  operated by volunteers for the purpose of providing musical education to youth.  Currently there are approximately 175 students grouped into three orchestras by age and ability. NJSYO also offers a chamber music group to provide young musicians  they opportunity to perform in smaller camps, and a "Learn to Play" program for beginners on select instruments.
